From Dec. 1-8, the best rinks in the nation will get the chance to do so as the Roar of the Rings Canadian Curling Trials take place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. Which womens rink do you think has what it takes to represent Canada at the Olympic Games in February? It looks as though there is a changing of the guard taking place. The 2010 Olympic silver medalist, Cheryl Bernard, failed to qualify for the Trials as the eight-rink field is filled with young squads. Ottawas Rachel Homan looks to be the odds on favourite to head to Sochi in February. The 24-year-old won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts last year and has already won a Grand Slam event this year. Jennifer Jones will have the hometown crowd behind her as the Winnipeg native will try to qualify for the Olympics for the first time in her career. The 39-year-old is a four-time Scotties champion and also has a world championship in her back pocket. Chelsea Carey is also from Winnipeg and will look to use the crowd to her advantage. Stefanie Lawton is the lone representative from Saskatchewan and will make her second straight appearance at the Trials. Heather Nedohins foursome from Edmonton won the Scotties back in 2012 and hopes to qualify for the Olympics. Her husband, Dave Nedohin, will also be at the Trials playing third for Kevin Martin. Sherry Middaugh from Coldwater, Ont. is hoping she makes it to Sochi with her husband as well. Wayne Middaugh plays third for Glenn Howard. Albertas Val Sweeting and Renée Sonnenberg grabbed the last two spots at the Pre-Trials in Kitchener and will be looking to surprise some people. Sweeting, 26, upset former world champion Kelly Scott of B.C. in the last qualifier while Sonnenberg, who was Denmarks coach at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, only lost once all week. So who do think has what it takes to win the Roar of the Rings and wear Canadas colours in February? As always, its Your! Call. Jarrett Boykin Jersey . Here are a handful of tidbits from around camp: Hutchison impressive The Blue Jays are being cautious when talking about their young arms but internally, excitement is building over the way Drew Hutchison is looking and performing this spring.LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas casinos like top seed Kentucky better than all the other teams in the NCAA tournament, but think Ohio State is better than any of the other No. 1s. Oddsmaker Mike Colbert of Cantor Gaming said Monday that Kentucky is a 5-2 favourite to win the championship, despite losing the Southeastern Conference championship to Vanderbilt on Sunday. "They started a little slow but I think theyve been the best team for the bulk of the year," said Colbert, Cantors risk management director. "I think the loss will end up being good for them -- I think they were getting slightly arrogant." No. 2 seed Ohio State was 6-1 as the second favourite in odds Cantor shared with the majority of Nevadas 186 sports books, Colbert said. "That probably surprises some people because they got beat yesterday by Michigan State in their conference championship," he said. Michigan State, the top seed in the West region, was 9-1 to win the title. The other top seeds -- North Carolina and Syracuse -- were 7-1 and 10-1, respectively. In any sport, Las Vegas usually makes teams more expensive if theyre popular among bettors. But the Buckeyes odds are based simply on the idea that theyre a better team than the others, Colbert said. "You put them on a neutral court against any of these other teams other than Kentucky and we think that theyre the second-best team overall," he said. "Were putting these numbers up purely based off of how good we think these teams are and how good their chances are to win the championship." Colbert saiid bettors were wagering heavily on Vanderbilt (40-1), Cincinnati (75-1) and Memphis (60-1) in early action. Tom Savage Womens Jersey. Gambling expert RJ Bell of Pregame.com said the betting lines for the tournament and its individual games are the best predictors to consider when guessing who might win. "Its the only prediction that those making the prediction are willing to back with millions of dollars," Bell said. Bell said some casinos think Kentucky, as the top favourite, is three times more likely than any other team to win the title. "Thats a strong statement," he said. Sin City is predicting five upsets in the first round: No. 9 Connecticut over No. 8 Iowa State, No. 10 West Virginia over No. 7 Gonzaga, No. 9 Alabama over No. 8 Creighton, No. 11 North Carolina State over No. 6 San Diego State and No. 10 Purdue over No. 7 St. Marys. Bell said the vast majority of people who play in office pools or other games dont pay attention to the point spread, giving smart bettors a convenient cheat sheet. "Youve got Vegas telling you this lower seed that is actually going to have far less than 50 per cent of people picking it," he said. "Thats exactly what bracket picking is about -- if you can find teams that have a better than 50 per cent chance to win that less than half the people are picking, thats how you win a bracket." Bell said more than 100 million people worldwide are expected to wager a total of $3 billion on bracket-style games. More than $12 billion total is expected to be wagered on the tournament, he said.
